Sheffield’s Growth Plan and Transport Vision set out our aspirations for an integrated, safe, reliable and low-carbon transport system, making our city easier to get around, better connected, accessible for vulnerable travellers and more sustainable. As the fourth largest city in England, we’re working with our regional partners to deliver plans for tram renewal and expansion, a franchised bus network from 2027, and our dynamic Connecting Sheffield programme is already underway, with spades in the ground on numerous projects.

You’ll lead our talented City Transport team in developing projects and programmes that support Sheffield’s Green, Growing and Global agendas, that align with our climate change ambitions and improve quality of life for all of Sheffield’s people. You’ll keep abreast of emerging approaches and best practice, influencing not only what we do ourselves but also how we collaborate with partners across the city, region and the wider North.

Working with the City Futures senior leadership team and other senior colleagues across the council, you’ll be a visible and respected contributor to the strategic conversation in transport forums. Candidates will be proven strategic transport professionals with a strong track record in transport planning, project and policy development and delivering strategic projects. A confident and inspiring manager and leader, with good political acumen, you’ll be relentlessly outcome-focused and have a robust ‘what works’ mindset.

Excellent communication and partnership-building skills are essential, as is the ability to confidently manage teams through change. This job has the potential, support and resources to deliver a programme that connects our communities across Sheffield and South Yorkshire – it really is a chance not to be missed.
