We have an exciting opportunity to join Sheffield as a Senior Officer in the Housing & Neighbourhood Service managing our 39, 000 council homes and providing safe and warm homes and giving an excellent service to our customers.

The job role will include –

– Delivery of a contract administration service for our 5 yearly domestic electrical testing programme. With a performance focus on improving compliance in this area.

– Implementation and monitoring of on-site quality assurance, defect inspection and handover procedures in line with Sheffield City Council policy and procedures. This will include issuing site instructions, variations and offering competent, sound technical advice

– Participation as a member of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for delivering (but not limited to) contract administration service, operational delivery of electrical works and an area based tenant and contractor liaison function

– Carry out joint inspections with Neighbourhood Officers offering assistance and guidance on matters relating to electrical maintenance and improvements to properties

– Undertake inspections and surveys, prepare, produce and present technical and non-technical reports and designs including the making of recommendations and remedial actions

– Be responsible for effective consultation and communication, both formally and informally, with tenants, contractors, elected members and colleagues. This may also include liaising with emergency services and other external stakeholders. The role will require attendance, reporting to and active participation at but not limited to local project groups, working groups and progress meetings

The Successful Applicant we are looking for will be –

  • Able to deal with contractors, other agencies and have good customer care skills and visit sites
  • Able to demonstrate a positive attitude to work, feels brave about brainstorming new ideas, and makes people feel excited to go to work with their colleagues
  • Able to undertake condition and dilapidation surveys and make recommendations on work requirements
  • Be a team player who is organised, and is calm under pressure
  • Able to produce high quality reports that diagnose investment requirements with recommendations to senior managers
  • Ability to lead and participate in consultation with customers about programmes of work
  • Must hold; 18th edition IEE wiring regulations qualification
  • Ideally understand the legislation relating to legionella and the appropriate action to be taken to ensure property is managed according to the regulations including Responsibilities under L8 would be helpful. You may be asked to attend a training course if this qualification / experience is lacking

The team are based at Solpro Business Park, Attercliffe, Sheffield. There is a requirement for the postholder to carry out site visits to customers’ homes and properties across the city. The team work a hybrid model and this post will spend 80% working out on site with the remainder of time either working in the office or remotely at home. The post will be a temporary post for a period of 12 months from appointment.
