Children's Mental Health Team

We are looking for qualified and experienced Children's Social Workers to join our specialist team in children's mental health. This is a fantastic opportunity to specialise in this challenging but rewarding area working with some of our most vulnerable children and young people in Sheffield. It is not easy work, we'll be honest, but caseloads are protected to enable the Social Workers the space to build relationships and gain trust, using their professional judgement and creativity on the best way to get there. The work is very highly valued and rewarding. We take care of our workers too by ensuring there is plenty of support available. Peer support in group supervisions where you can share concerns with supportive colleagues and health professionals are a key part of this, along with weekly training sessions and of course a supportive manager. Naturally, we also have an employee assistance programme, offering a range of advice including financial, legal and counselling.

If you are a qualified Social Worker experienced in child protection or from the health sector, then this could be the right job for you. Ideally you will have had some experience in children's mental health, but we are willing to develop the right candidate.

What we are looking for:

  • Qualified Social Worker with experience in child protection, safeguarding, risk management and care proceeding or in children's mental health from the health sector.
  • You must be registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience of working with children and young people who are experiencing complex mental health issues and have experience of working with specialist mental health hospitals is desirable, but training will be provided to the right candidate.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and trust with children and young people in crisis.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be part of a close and supportive team.
  • Experience of working with children and young people who are disabled is also desirable.

Key duties of the role:

  • Support children and young people who have complex mental health issues, both at home, in placements and within specialist mental health hospitals.
  • Ensure that there is a robust safety and care plan in place, that keeps the child/young person at the centre.
  • Develop care plans in collaboration with the family and specialist agencies involved in the case, such as CAMHS, NHS England, Clinical Commissioning Group and specialist hospitals.
