Overview

Are you a bricklayer who would like to make a positive contribution to Sheffield people?

At Sheffield City Council we’re currently seeking qualified bricklayers to join our city-wide team on the Repairs & Maintenance Service and help us to continue to deliver excellent results to our customers.

Our operatives work varies depending on seasonal demand. We are specifically looking for bricklayers who are happy to work at height carrying out repointing, chimney stack, lintel, ridge and verge repairs and replacement, but also undertake general domestic building works when demand requires.

We pride ourselves on providing a responsive, efficient, and professional service and if you would like to be a part of that, we want to hear from you.

There are lots of benefits to working with us:

  • All our jobs are in Sheffield, so there’s no need to travel far.
  • We provide your transport in our fleet of vehicles.
  • We provide all the PPE you need to work. Health and Safety is a high priority for us, as reflected in our excellent safety record.
  • On top of that we offer a great paid annual leave allowance of 26 days moving to 31 after 5 years’ service.
  • The opportunity to join a generous pension scheme.

That’s not all – when you work with us you receive an ongoing training package to make sure your skills stay up-to-date, and if you need to renew certificates to remain compliant in your trade, we provide that too.

For informal enquiries please contact Martin Jasper via martin.jasper@sheffield.gov.uk

As you may be asked to drive a Council vehicle, an ability to drive is essential.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Equality of pay is extremely important to us. All roles at Sheffield City Council are going through an evaluation process which may result in changes to some pay arrangements from 2026. Find out more on our Sheff news page.
