We are looking to recruit an experienced lawyer specialising in court and tribunal advocacy, enthusiastic and hardworking, able to work under pressure and tight deadlines to provide a vital service for our clients. This role welcomes applicants from both the private and public sectors and is part of a busy legal department serving the fourth largest city in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Manage your own caseload, including complex and interesting areas of civil litigation.
  • Provide authoritative advice to council officers and members, ensuring decisions are lawful.
  • Represent the council in civil litigation matters, including defence of disrepair claims, recovery of debts, general commercial and other civil litigation.

Qualifications

  • Recognised legal qualification (Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEX) with full practising and advocacy rights.
  • Technical knowledge in all aspects of legal advice and representation relating to defending disrepair claims, recovery of debts, general commercial and other civil litigation.
  • Understanding of legal case‑management systems and process knowledge.

  • Equality of pay is extremely important; all roles are subject to an evaluation process which may change pay arrangements from 2026.
