This is an exciting time to join Sheffield City Council Children and Families Service, where we have reshaped the way we are working with young people who are in residential care.

We are looking for an Assistant Homes Manager to work a full time 37 hour week in Mulberry Lodge. Enhanced rates of pay are applicable for any evening work required after 8pm and for any weekend work and bank holidays.

The role is to be the Assistant Homes Manager, responsible to the Registered Homes Manager providing management support such as case and file management, staff deployment and taking a leading role in the safeguarding systems alongside the Homes Manager to enable the smooth running of the home, and to deputise in the registered homes managers absence for limited periods of time.

Additionally, you will provide support to the young people where required and work within a defined culture and intervention practice model and will adopt a solution focussed and restorative approach.

You will need the following qualifications and or experience:

  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent or relevant experience to an equivalent level by referring to the task list for the post.
  • Minimum of two years\’ experience in a position relevant to the residential care of children and young people with direct responsibility for supervising the work of others and supporting their learning in a care role.
  • Previous experience within a Children\’s Home environment and prior knowledge of safeguarding processes both with regard to child protection, health and safety, fire procedures and risk assessment / risk management and to have a good knowledge of the Children\’s Home Regulations.

The formal interview will be face to face and will include a written exercise and a 10-minute presentation.

Mulberry Lodge provides overnight short breaks for up to 6 children and young people. It is for children and young people aged 7-18 with learning disabilities.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
