We are looking for a motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for working with young people and families to join our inpatient CAMHS team. You will help deliver person-centred care to young people with a variety of mental health needs, including those with neurodevelopmental conditions. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and develop the occupational therapy provision within a supportive and progressive team.

HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a recognised degree

Experience in mental health settings, ideally with children and adolescents

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Occupational Therapy Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:

Provide specialist OT assessments and evidence-based therapeutic interventions

Develop and deliver individual and group treatment plans

Collaborate with the MDT and families in care planning and discharge

Help develop the CAMHS OT service

Supervise junior and support staff, and coordinate OT clinical workload

Participate in regular clinical and managerial supervision

Qualifications

• HCPC Registration
• Degree in Occupational Therapy
• Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent, relevant postgraduate courses and in-service training
• Post-graduate training in Sensory Integration
• Portfolio evidence of reflective practice
• Membership of BAOT

Experience

• Variety of general and relevant experience
• Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience of working within a Mental Health setting
• Experience of running groups
• Experience of working within CAMHS and/or inpatient mental health services
• Experience of working with people with eating disorders
• Experience of working with/assessing young people with autism spectrum disorder
• Experience of contributing to audit, service evaluation and service improvement

Knowledge

• Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
• Knowledge of clinical governance and its implications for services
• Understanding of family / team dynamics and how to develop working relationships with all involved in the child\’s care
• Understanding of the impact of mental health difficulties / hospitalisation on patients and their families
• Understanding of data protection, confidentiality and health and safety requirements in meeting the needs of the child and family
• Understanding of Safeguarding Children procedures
• Ability to present information, written and verbal in a clear and logical manner
• Ability to communicate effectively with young people, their families and a wide range of professionals
• Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate appropriately
• Ability to keep accurate and legible clinical records
• Ability to cope with working in a stressful environment and within emotional or challenging situations
• Problem solving approach
• Knowledge of consent issues specific to paediatrics
• Simple research methodology
• Able to undertake audit process
• Understanding of neurodevelopmental conditions
• Understanding of eating disorders
• Ability to organise internal / external courses
