An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the Surgery and Critical Care Divisional Management team at Sheffield Children's Hospital as a Waiting List Coordinator. The appointee would be managed by the Waiting List Service Coordinator in Surgery & Critical Care and will work closely with the Consultants, Operational Support Managers, other Operational Managers & Performance team. Having the ability to speak directly to families in a professional manner to arrange the patient's operation dates is essential. The successful applicant will need to have an excellent knowledge of organisational and information management, good interpersonal skills and be willing to communicate with hospital staff at all levels. The applicant needs to be motivated to work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.

Main duties of the job:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clinical and administrative teams to support smooth patient pathways.
  • Manage and monitor waiting lists to ensure timely, efficient, and accurate scheduling of patients.
  • Allocate admission dates in line with clinical priorities and service capacity.
  • Coordinate arrangements for patients attending for surgery, ensuring all details are communicated and organised effectively.

Person Specification:

Qualifications & Training:

  • Essential: Educated to GCSE standard, with a GCSE/O Level or equivalent in English Language (Grade A-C)
  • Desirable: ECDL or equivalent qualification

Experience:

  • Essential: Clerical experience gained from working within a patient administration department within a hospital setting
  • Experience of dealing with the general public
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Experience of using patient based computer systems
  • Desirable: 12 months work experience of Inpatient, Outpatient or Waiting list management
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Experience of using Patient Administrative System
  • Experience of working with medical and nursing staff

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Essential: Knowledge of In-patient, Waiting list or Out-patient working processes and practices
  • Knowledge of medical records procedures
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Good communication skills
  • Desirable: Knowledge of waiting list administration procedures
  • Working knowledge of the Waiting List module of a hospital Patient Administration System
  • Working knowledge of a Theatre Scheduling system
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills
