An exciting opportunity to join Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Management Accountant providing Care group management teams with a high quality comprehensive financial advisory service. Advising the Care group management teams, covering support services and corporate budgets, on the implications of financial strategy and policy. This is a great time to join the Trust as we look to implement our recently refreshed clinical and supporting strategies to guide us forward into future years of partnership working and taking the lead in developing services and care for children, young people and their families.

More than ever we are looking for closer working with clinical/corporate teams as the Trust rolls out its Value Improvement Programme with a view of how, jointly, we can look to maximise the quality and value of the services we provide. We are looking for a dynamic individual who can make a difference to work alongside our dedicated Finance team, supporting the senior management team in building an inclusive and diverse workplace, as well as supporting the Trust in achieving our strategic aims.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strategic financial leadership to Care Groups, ensuring decisions and plans align with Trust priorities.
  • Lead on forecasting, complex financial planning and analysis to support year-end delivery and long-term strategy.
  • Oversee the Vacancy Control process, supporting effective workforce and cost management.
  • Deliver high-quality financial monitoring, challenging performance and driving improvement across services.
  • Support business case development through robust financial modelling and scenario analysis.
  • Manage monthly budget reporting, highlighting variances and developing clear financial action plans.
  • Work with Care Groups to identify, test and deliver efficiency schemes that support organisational savings.
  • Contribute to central reporting and support senior finance leaders, delegating tasks within the team.
  • Line-manage a trainee management accountant, supporting their development, wellbeing and performance.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance related field

Experience

  • Experience of working in a financial management function in a large and complex organisation
  • Experience with using different accounting software
  • Experience in preparing and analysing financial reports, budgets and forecasts
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Experience of working with and advising senior leaders
  • Experience of liaising and working with Commissioners / NHSE

Knowledge and Skills

  • Highly numerate with strong analytical and critical reasoning skills
  • A wide and specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
  • Be able to demonstrate technical expertise in financial matters following legislation and finance policies
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance on the principles of budgetary control and reporting and explain complex information to non-specialists.
  • Ability to manage an extensive and complex workload efficiently
  • Effective and strong financial management and financial planning skills
  • Negotiating and influencing skills with the ability to problem solve
  • Ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and make decisions relating to non-routine tasks without seeking approval from managers
  • Knowledge of current key NHSE policies and priorities and their impact on role/Trust.
  • A clear understanding of the financial regime within the NHS and be able to articulate them to non-financial colleagues
