We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual to join our team as a Deputy Quality Manager within the Pharmacy, Diagnostics and Genetics Care Group at Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will share the Trust values and be a compassionate, accountable individual who treats all colleagues, patients and service users with respect whilst delivering excellence in their role.

The Deputy Quality Manager, under the leadership of the Quality Manager, will assist in maintaining and developing the Quality Management System (QMS) for the Pathology Laboratories. The objective being that the Pathology Laboratories become progressively more effective and efficient in quality terms and meets both regulatory and accreditation requirements. The post holder will provide support, advice and guidance to Care Group and Departmental managers in the areas of document control, audit, corrective/preventative actions, incident management, management of training, asset and supplier records, and preparation for UKAS/MHRA/HTA accreditation visits. The post holder will be a key member of the quality management team.

Job responsibilities include maintaining and developing the Quality Management System, providing support and guidance to managers, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Qualifications and Training:

  • Essential: BSc in a Science related subject e.g. Biomedical Science (2.2 or above). Evidence of active participation in Continual Professional Development (CPD).
  • Desirable: Appropriate MSc or equivalent evidence of extended practice. Recognised Quality Management qualification e.g. IBMS Certificate of Expert Practice in Quality Management. Basic management/leadership qualification. HCPC registration or professional registration in a scientific or quality management field.

Experience:

  • Essential: Laboratory background with relevant experience of external regulatory accreditation (e.g. UKAS, CPA, HTA, MHRA) and laboratory quality management processes. Experience in quality management. Experience of performing audits to regulatory standards. Experience of giving presentations to staff to inform and influence practice. Experience of building effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders in order to engage with them.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Essential: Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and systems of accreditation. Knowledge and understanding of the theory of laboratory quality management. Demonstrable ability in using a Quality Management Software System e.g. QPulse. Demonstrable ability in the use of IT systems and Microsoft software packages for the manipulation of data and production of statistics and reports. Knowledge of diagnostic testing procedures. Knowledge of Health and Safety, COSHH regulations, and Risk Management requirements especially in relation to the hazards posed by and precautions needed with biological fluids, chemical and solvents. Good written and verbal communication skills. Good teaching and presentation skills. Diplomacy and interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and mediate where necessary. Able to overcome barriers to engagement using persuasive communication. Able to plan and prioritise a wide range of competing priorities to meet deadlines liaising with other stakeholders as required. Able to analyse information and evaluate situations to draw conclusions and where required solve problems.
