An Architect / Architectural Designer acts under supervision regarding architectural methods and complexities and is responsible for the development and design of complex architectural projects. In this position, you may act as a member of a team supporting the lead architect. This position contributes to the finished packages, specifications, approval of materials/products and development of construction packages. The Architect / Architectural Designer must be able to apply sound and diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices in a broad array of assignments.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Liaise closely with the Project Lead in the design development of the scheme with regular interim meetings.
- Responsible for the preparation of new designs and adaptations to existing designs, drawings, specifications and schedules to suit design development and information release requirements.
- Independently evaluate, select and apply knowledge of design and construction techniques.
- Liaise with consultants and relevant statutory authorities to establish the conceptual framework.
- Assist the Project Lead in the coordination of the design team on a day‑to‑day basis and in maintaining good working relationships.
- Instruct, clarify and develop design studies with individual members of the team.
- Attend client meetings and presentations as necessary.
- Contribute to the layout of projects and integrate architectural and engineering elements into a unified design for client review and approval.
- Contribute to the preparation of scale drawings and contract documents for building contractors.
- Contribute to the administration of construction documents and provide periodic onsite observation of work during construction to monitor specification compliance.
- Contribute to finding technical solutions to problems and show understanding of good design principles.
Communications and procedures
- Manage time and effort ensuring the timely completion of assigned work.
- Understand office procedures and work within set SNHA design standards.
Required Skills
- Registration with ARB and RIBA, and/or equivalent overseas professional body (Desirable).
- Relevant experience in the architectural/construction industry (Essential). Preferably, at least 4 years of experience (Desirable).
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently (Essential).
- Proven experience in RIBA Stages (Desirable).
- Previous experience with complex projects (like Data Centres, Healthcare, Aviation, Mixed‑use or Multi‑family residential) (Desirable).
- Technical skills/detailing experience (Desirable).
- Experience coordinating complex projects in a BIM environment (Desirable).
- Average verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external relationships (Essential).
- Strong organizational skills to successfully manage multiple, competing priorities (Essential).
- Able to read, analyse and interpret complex documents including technical journals (Desirable).
Software Skills
- Working knowledge: Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook) (Essential).
- Revit/BIM 360 fundamentals (Essential).
- BIM Level 2 (Desirable).
Additional requirements
- Able to travel in the UK (Essential).
- Able to work out of office hours when required to meet project deadlines (Essential).
- Able to travel abroad as required (Desirable).
