We are a global marine geoscience and technology business, pioneers using ground-breaking technology to study what lies beneath the ocean floor. We help energy companies plan ahead, accelerating responsible use of the planet’s resources. We provide marine seismic data, imaging products and data processing software. Our teams offer unparalleled acquisition capability to our clients, providing them with the tools they need to reduce exploration risks and maximise their production efficiency.
We’re looking for a Technical Excellence Manager to support and help shape our Processing & Imaging (P&I) teams across Europe, Africa and India. You’ll provide senior technical leadership across the organisation, helping to strengthen capability, improve operational performance and ensure consistent delivery of high quality seismic processing and imaging.
A key part of the role is bringing clarity to complexity, reducing processing cycle time, improving delivery predictability and simplifying the way we work through stronger technical leadership, clear decision making and practical operational discipline. You’ll work closely with Area Geophysicists and Team Leaders, providing direction on complex technical matters, strengthening judgement within teams and helping create an environment where people feel supported, trusted and equipped to deliver.
You’ll also play an important role in connecting operations with technology development, ensuring new capabilities from R&D and Reveal software are implemented in a way that is practical, valuable and aligned with wider business priorities.
Technically speaking, you’ll have a degree in Geophysics, Physics or another scientific discipline, with extensive seismic processing and imaging experience. You’ll have a strong track record of providing technical leadership across complex geophysical projects and organisations, with a clear understanding of modern processing technologies, operational delivery and industry developments. You’ll be able to identify inefficiencies, simplify the operating picture and lead improvement initiatives that strengthen delivery, consistency and technical capability across the department.
You’ll understand how technical decisions affect not only quality, but also cycle time, delivery confidence and commercial performance, and will be comfortable balancing these in a practical and credible way.
In personal terms, you’re an experienced, credible and self‑driven leader who combines strategic thinking with a strong focus on delivery. You bring a coaching mindset and lead with empathy, helping others build confidence, judgement and technical maturity while maintaining clear standards and accountability. You communicate with clarity, build strong relationships and bring people together around a shared direction, even where the picture is complex or priorities compete. You lead by example, encourage knowledge sharing and create the conditions for teams to work with confidence, ownership and purpose. You’re comfortable engaging with clients on senior technical matters and bring a calm, commercially aware and solutions focused approach.
What does Shearwater offer you? Competitive salary and benefits. The opportunity to apply and adapt your professional and academic experience for business needs. A promise to fill any knowledge gaps with an individual learning plan, in an environment that encourages progression. The chance to work in one of the world’s most exciting industries, in teams that are diverse and global. A culture of transparency and freedom.
