We are a global marine geoscience and technology business, pioneers using ground-breaking technology to study what lies beneath the ocean floor. We help energy companies plan ahead, accelerating responsible use of the planet’s resources.

We’re looking for a Global HPC Lead to define and lead the evolution of Shearwater’s high-performance computing capability. Seismic processing, advanced imaging and AI are fundamental to our business, and the HPC platforms that enable them are among our most important technology assets.

You will own the strategy, architecture and roadmap for this global capability, ensuring we have the right platforms, technologies and operating models to support the future needs of the business. You will lead the direction of a global HPC environment spanning on‑premises NVIDIA GPU compute, high‑performance storage, workload orchestration and cloud services. You will balance performance, scalability, resilience and cost to ensure Shearwater continues to operate at the forefront of marine geoscience technology.

This is a role where deep technical expertise meets strategic leadership. Working across IT, Processing & Imaging, Software Development and business stakeholders, you will translate emerging requirements into technology strategy, investment decisions and practical delivery plans.

Technically speaking, you will define and evolve our HPC architecture, including hybrid cloud integration, GPU compute strategy, storage platforms, networking and workload management. You will evaluate emerging technologies, shape vendor strategy and make recommendations that influence long‑term platform direction.

You will own the governance of the HPC estate, ensuring security, compliance and operational practices align with ISO 27001. You will oversee platform resilience, capacity planning, cost optimisation and service improvement, ensuring the environment remains secure, efficient and capable of meeting future demand.

Requirements

  • Significant experience designing, operating or leading HPC, accelerated computing, cloud infrastructure or enterprise‑scale platforms.
  • Experience with NVIDIA GPU infrastructure, including capacity planning, workload scheduling and performance optimisation.
  • Strong understanding of hybrid infrastructure models combining on‑premises and cloud technologies.
  • Experience defining technology roadmaps and making architectural decisions at scale.
  • Experience managing technology vendors and evaluating platforms, services and solutions.
  • Understanding of cloud cost management and FinOps principles.
  • Ability to communicate technical strategy and investment decisions to senior stakeholders.

Preferred (not essential)

  • Experience in energy, geoscience, scientific computing or other data‑intensive industries.
  • Experience with AI/ML infrastructure or accelerated computing platforms.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 27001 or similar security frameworks within infrastructure environments.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • The opportunity to apply and adapt your professional and academic experience for business needs.
  • A promise to fill any knowledge gaps with an individual learning plan, in an environment that encourages progression.
  • The chance to work in one of the world’s most exciting industries in teams that are diverse and global.
  • A culture of transparency and freedom.
