Shooters Hill Sixth Form College is seeking an exceptional Multi-Skills Construction Specialist / Industry Skills Lead to play a pivotal role in the development of the Build Academy, an innovative, employer-led construction training academy designed to tackle London's growing construction skills shortage.
Contract Type: Full time, all year round. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced construction professional to bring industry expertise, leadership and credibility into a dynamic learning environment while helping shape a workforce capable of meeting current and future industry demands. The Role: As Multi‑Skills Construction Specialist / Industry Skills Lead, you will be responsible for delivering high‑quality practical training across a range of construction disciplines while acting as a mentor, coach and industry ambassador. You will ensure learners develop not only technical competence but also the professional behaviours, work ethic and employability skills required to succeed within the modern construction sector. Working directly with employers and stakeholders, you will help shape curriculum delivery to ensure it remains aligned with labour market needs, recruitment demands and future workforce requirements.
Key Responsibilities: Industry‑Led Practical Delivery
- Lead practical training, demonstrations and employer‑led projects across multiple trades, including:
- Site Carpentry & Joinery
- Brickwork
- Painting & Decorating

- Retrofit & Green Construction Skills
You will:
- Deliver engaging, industry‑standard practical learning experiences

Employer and Industry Engagement: Working closely with employers and industry stakeholders, you will:
- Build and maintain strong industry partnerships
- Identify current recruitment challenges and workforce shortages
- Support curriculum development aligned to labour market demand
- Coordinate employer masterclasses, site visits and industry projects
- Develop work experience, placement and apprenticeship opportunities
- Act as an ambassador for the Build Academy and Shooters Hill Sixth Form College
- Strengthen employer engagement and progression pathways for learners
- Gather industry intelligence to ensure training remains relevant and responsive
About You: Minimum 7 years’ experience working within the construction industry. Strong practical experience across multiple construction trades. Experience working on live construction sites. Excellent understanding of domestic construction, repair, maintenance, improvement (RMI) and/or retrofit sectors.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong multi‑trade practical skillset. Experience mentoring apprentices, trainees or new entrants. Excellent communication and coaching skills. Ability to engage, motivate and inspire young people. Thorough understanding of construction health and safety requirements. Relevant industry‑recognised trade qualifications or equivalent experience.
