Shaw Healthcare is recruiting for a Carpenter to cover our 14 care services in the Powys region.
Location: Powys - Travel across 14 care services is required
Hourly Rate: £18.50 per hour plus monthly car allowance of £385
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Objectives:
- To provide an effective and reliable planned and reactive carpentry service to the organisation’s portfolio of care homes across the county of Powys.
- To work closely with the Building Surveyor and Facilities Manager to provide a professional carpentry service using own initiative to programme and deliver a high standard service and ensure it is carried out in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, company policies and any other relevant legislation covering safety within the workplace.
Primary Duties:
- Maintain, repair and replace fire doors and frames as required.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Easing and adjusting fire doors and frames to meet current standards
- Fitting new doors and frames where required
- The fitting and adjusting of door closers
- Replacement and upgrading of ironmongery including handles and hinges
- Fit new smoke seals and brushes
- The fitting of dropdown door seals
- To replace glazing and beading where required
- To fit lippins
- Undertake fire stopping works as required
- Carry out general carpentry works as required.
To methodically undertake works as identified in third party fire door surveys or in-house checks. Carry out pre-inspections with Care home Service Managers, Building Surveyors and Facilities Managers to determine the extent of the carpentry works required. To determine and implement the most cost-effective and time-effective process of work. Carry out carpentry works within occupied and unoccupied communal areas of the homes, ensuring that tools and materials are carefully stored and away from residents and visitors. To carry out all tasks in compliance with current standards, legislation, manufacturers guidelines and approved codes of practice. To self-manage and audit all works carried out in agreement with the Building Surveyor or Facilities Manager. To ensure that suitable levels of material stocks are retained to ensure a “first time fix” for reactive works. To carry out all necessary administrative work, such as keeping accurate and timely records of all work undertaken. Liaise and work closely with all Service Managers whilst providing technical advice and progress updates where required.
Qualifications:
- City & Guilds part III or NVQ level 2/3 in Carpentry or demonstrable experience.
- Experience of using hand and power tools.
- Holds a full and valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Have the ability to plan and organise carpentry works/projects.
