Our mission is to engage audiences with compelling audio experiences, driven by data and innovation.
Our Team:
SharpStream is part of Bauer Media Audio, Europe’s leading digital commercial radio broadcaster and audio operator. Our team focuses on providing a market-leading intelligent distribution network that enables our clients to stream live and on-demand audio content. We’re a future-oriented, fast-paced team using cutting-edge technology to deliver solutions, and we believe in fostering a collaborative culture with opportunities for learning, conferences, and supplier site visits.
The Role:
As we expand our team of 10, we’re looking for an 11th member to join us as a Linux DevOps Engineer. You will play a critical role in ensuring the high availability and performance of Sharp-Stream’s audio streaming platform by designing, maintaining, and optimising our Linux-based infrastructure. This includes modernising systems into a container environment, automating processes to help maintain our 99.995% SLA, and managing high-visibility, production-critical systems. This role offers significant autonomy, with the freedom to innovate within a smaller, tightly knit team, and provides exposure to a wide variety of technologies and clients in the audio space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable Linux systems using infrastructure as code (primarily Ansible), with a focus on modernising services into container environments (Docker, moving towards Kubernetes).
- Troubleshoot and resolve service failures, focusing on network-related issues in the streaming environment.
- Optimise TCP/IP stack performance and enhance system security.
- Work on improving bandwidth and firewalls, especially for international points of presence in the EU.
- Support the architecture and planning of our infrastructure and work closely with vendors.
- Participate in a rotating on-call support system (every 4th week), ensuring 24/7 operational coverage for critical outages.
- Collaborate with internal teams to continuously enhance the platform, supporting client visits and vendor relationships as necessary.
What We’re Looking For:
Non-Negotiable Skills:
- Linux Systems Administration: Solid foundation in Linux (preferably Debian) administration.
- Networking Expertise: Proficiency in TCP/IP, DNS management, and troubleshooting network issues. Experience with BGP/OSPF and Juniper technologies is highly desirable.
- Infrastructure as Code: Expertise in Ansible and experience working in hybrid cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or similar).
- Web Technologies: Experience with Nginx, Apache, and content caching.
- Containerisation: Experience with Docker, and knowledge of Kubernetes is a plus.
- Database Management: Familiarity with MySQL or Galera is advantageous.
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with streaming technologies such as HLS, Shoutcast, and Icecast.
- Experience with firewalling and multi-site network management.
- Coding or scripting experience in Bash, PHP, or Python for automation and troubleshooting.
- Willingness to travel to EU sites to support system architecture and vendor communications.
Key Personality Traits:
- Naturally Curious: You thrive on exploring new technologies and finding creative solutions to complex problems.
- Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to troubleshooting and resolving issues.
- Calm Under Pressure: You can manage high-visibility production systems with a calm, logical approach.
- Excellent Communicator: You can explain technical details to both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.

- Smaller team structure, giving you significant responsibility and freedom to innovate.
- Collaborative, fast-paced environment where technical curiosity is valued.
- Competitive salary and additional remuneration for on-call support.
- Fully remote with opportunities for client visits and vendor site interactions.
Hiring Process:
- HR Screening Call: General overview and initial alignment.
- Technical Interview: Focus on crisis management and technical expertise.
