We’re looking for a Transport Route Planning & Efficiency Manager to take ownership of routing strategy, fleet utilisation and transport performance across a national operation. This is a key role focused on improving how transport runs day to day. You’ll use data, systems and increasingly AI-led tools to drive smarter planning, reduce cost and improve service delivery at scale. You’ll work closely with operational sites, transport teams and senior leadership to bring consistency, visibility and measurable improvements across the network. You’ll lead the development and ongoing improvement of transport planning and optimisation across the UK network. This includes everything from route design and forecasting through to system capability, automation and performance reporting. The aim is simple: make transport more efficient, more predictable and easier to scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead national route optimisation initiatives across the transport network
  • Utilise AI-driven tools and advanced analytics to enhance route planning, demand forecasting and scheduling accuracy
  • Working with Finance Business Partner analyse transport performance data to identify efficiency improvements and cost reduction opportunities
  • Develop and standardise routing methodologies across all operational sites
  • Support depot transport teams with planning strategy and operational efficiencies
  • Monitor transport KPIs including mileage, fuel usage, vehicle utilisation, overtime and service performance
  • Oversee transport planning systems, telematics and optimisation platforms to improve operational visibility and decision making
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities within transport planning and scheduling processes
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve customer service delivery and reduce failed collections or delays
  • Ensure Transport compliance through legally compliant planning practices and driver scheduling
  • Produce regular operational and performance reporting for senior leadership
  • Lead continuous improvement projects relating to transport and logistics operations
  • Support future network growth planning, including AI-supported modelling, capacity forecasting and scenario planning
  • Collaborate with finance and operations teams to support budgeting and cost management initiatives

Candidate profile

  • Significant experience within transport, logistics or fleet optimisation roles
  • Experience operating within multi-site or national logistics environments
  • Strong understanding of transport planning, routing and operational efficiency principles
  • Experience using transport management systems, telematics and route optimisation software
  • Exposure to AI, machine learning tools or advanced analytics in a logistics or operational context
  • Strong analytical capability with advanced Excel and reporting skills
  • Ability to interpret operational data and translate findings into practical solutions
  • Knowledge of UK transport compliance and operational requirements
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience leading improvement initiatives across operational environments
  • CPC qualification desirable but not essential
  • Driving license and willingness to travel
