Sharpsmart is a growing business and, due to continued expansion, we are looking for a Network Transport Planner to help shape smarter, practical transport plans across our operational network.
Using Solera Omnitracs Roadnet and other digital tools, you will maintain reliable planning data, build and test efficient routes, and turn information into improvements for customers, drivers and site teams.
You do not need to be a transport expert from day one.
We are looking for someone who understands systems and technology, enjoys solving problems and is motivated to learn in a fast-paced operational environment.
This role will involve travel across our National Operational sites.
- Learning and using Solera Omnitracs Roadnet to support daily, weekly and forward transport planning.
- Maintaining accurate customer, location, driver, vehicle and route data, including geocodes, service times, service windows and vehicle capacities.
- Using Excel, CSV files and agreed system processes to validate data, investigate errors and support reliable imports and reporting.
- Building and reviewing practical route plans that balance customer requirements, available resources, operating constraints and cost.
- Comparing planned and actual mileage, travel time, service time and route duration to improve future plans.
- Working with site teams to understand how routes operate in practice and ensure system information reflects real conditions.
- Travelling regularly to operational sites to observe processes, validate data, support users and help embed consistent ways of working.
- Identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary mileage, empty running, overtime and avoidable third-party transport use.
- Supporting system testing, user adoption and continuous-improvement activity with operational colleagues, IT and system providers.
- Producing plans within agreed legal, safety and company requirements and escalating risks through the appropriate process.
Experience
- Previous experience in a Transport Planner, Logistics Coordinator or similar transport operations role.
- Experience using transport management systems (TMS) and route planning software.
- Experience working within a fast-paced logistics or distribution environment.
- Knowledge
- A strong understanding of systems and technology, with the confidence to learn new platforms.
- Comfortable working with structured data, spreadsheets and digital tools, and understands the importance of data accuracy.
- Transport-planning or compliance knowledge is desirable and can be developed in the role.
Skills
- Logical, analytical and confident when investigating problems.
- Good Excel skills, including sorting, filtering, lookups and basic data analysis.
- Accurate and organised, with the ability to manage priorities and follow issues through.
- Clear communicator who can work effectively with operational, technical and management teams.
- Able to work independently, while asking questions and escalating when appropriate.
- Personal Attributes
- Customer-focused and results-driven.
- Able to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proactive with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently when required.
