Job Purpose
Responsible for implementing sections of functionality or making updates to existing features, ensuring that they are delivered on time with the correct approach, and to the standards defined by the development leads.
Our tech stack includes some of the latest design patterns and tools as well as established tech that needs additional features building on. For example, React, Node.js, HTML, CSS, caching, messaging API services, all used to build a groundbreaking platform that has integration to internal and external services.
Job Duties
- Design, develop, and maintain software applications using JavaScript frameworks and related frontend technologies.
- Scale and performance of web frontend and interaction with API layers.
- Debug and resolve software issues, including fixing bugs and optimizing performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Designers, Testers, and Project Managers, to deliver high-quality software.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to the team.
- Implement and follow software development processes, including Agile and Scrum methodologies.
- Stay up-to-date with new technologies and programming languages, and apply this knowledge to improve software development processes.
- Document software design, code, and test procedures.
- Participate in the estimation of software development projects.
- Participate in customer and end-user interactions to gather requirements and provide support.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including user manuals and help systems.
- Mentor Junior Developers and assist with their professional development.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essentials:
- Significant commercial experience in the web stack of React, Node.js, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Demonstrable understanding of low latency, high-scale approaches such as WebSockets.
- Thorough grasp of distributed web caching tools and techniques, e.g. Redis, etc.
- Demonstrable understanding of fundamental software development best practices, architectures and patterns.
- Proponent of high-quality code and able to demonstrate methods and practices to achieve metrics like high unit test coverage.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and high adaptability.
- Awareness of modern deployment methodologies.
- Expertise in performance optimisation of web technologies.
Desirables:
- Someone who works to increase team cohesion by being a collaboration first person – such as helping upskill peers, engaging in pair programming and providing high quality code reviews.
- Willingness to challenge process and existing ways of working or to truly own the domain you’re a part of, pushing for innovation through valuable technical or non-technical change.
