Job Description

Sharper Consulting Servicesare recruiting for an experienced Trading Standards Officer to support a London based local authority.

The role involves enforcing consumer protection laws, conducting investigations, and taking enforcement actions to ensure compliance with trading standards legislation.

Contract Length: 6-12 months

Rate: £38 – £45 per hour (Umbrella)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate complaints and breaches of trading standards legislation, including enforcement of weights and measures regulations and tackling counterfeit goods.
  • Undertake inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Collect evidence, prepare case files, and deliver enforcement actions, including issuing notices and prosecutions.
  • Provide advice and guidance to businesses and consumers on trading standards matters.
  • Represent the authority in court proceedings and other legal hearings.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to tackle fraudulent activities and promote fair trading.

Essential Requirements:

  • Substantial experience as a Trading Standards Officer or in a similar enforcement-focused role.
  • In-depth knowledge of trading standards legislation and enforcement practices.
  • Proven ability to investigate complex cases, manage evidence, and prepare cases for legal action.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in working with partner organizations and stakeholders.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle (desirable).
