Sharpe Pritchard is seeking a Billing & Revenue Executive to join our friendly and ambitious law firm. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the Revenue team of our busy Finance department. The Billing and Revenue Executive will work to ensure the firm achieves billing and cash collections targets, ensuring timely payment of bills, reducing debts and raising accurate bills.

The Billing and Revenue Executive will work closely with all members of the Finance function, as well as the wider firm to provide an efficient and proactive service by adhering to service level agreements and meeting all compliance requirements. We operate a hybrid working model, whereby employees can combine working from the office with working from home. The current policy provides an expectation of a minimum of two days a week in the office, subject to the needs of the firm, clients and colleagues. Our office is within easy access of Kings Cross and Farringdon mainline stations and Chancery Lane tube.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Creation of monthly bills from draft to posting final bills
  • Proactively manage the billing process and ensure that any adjustments fee earners have requested are incorporated and any client or matter specific requirements are met
  • Dispatch bills to clients via email or uploading to billing portals
  • Advise fee earners in a regular and timely manner when they are nearing their cost estimate, undertaking or purchase order value
  • Process bill reversals, credit notes and billing adjustments
  • Conduct monthly fee earner WIP, disbursement and debt meetings
  • Creation of cost schedules as requested by clients
  • Write off irrecoverable WIP and disbursements
  • Posting expert and counsel’s fees
  • Support credit control activity, including chasing unpaid invoices and responding to client billing queries
  • Engage with fee earners and partners to improve cash collections and reduce debtor days
  • Ensure the credit control database is maintained and updated regularly
  • Adhere to the firm’s billing policy
  • Adhere to the credit control policy ensuring debts are escalated where necessary
  • Produce and distribute debt reports on a regular basis
  • Acknowledge, action and resolve queries from both external and internal clients promptly
  • Ensuring compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules and HMRC VAT regulations
  • Adhering to the team’s service level agreements
  • Assisting with daily review of the finance team central inbox, credit control inbox and acknowledging queries, resolving queries in a timely fashion, and escalating when necessary
  • Ensuring all documentation is filed in the finance team’s electronic filing system and to the relevant client/matter on the case management system
  • Cover in periods of absence for other members of the revenue team and any other ad hoc tasks related to the revenue team
Required Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • 1 year plus experience in a billing, revenue or finance role, preferably within legal or professional service
  • Understanding of HMRC VAT regulations
  • Strong academics, particularly in Maths and English Language at GCSE standard or equivalent
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Confident communicator, able to deal professionally with internal stakeholders and clients
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Working knowledge of credit control function and billing cycles
  • Exposure to Solicitors Accounts rules
  • Experience of using a legal practice management system
  • Good MS Office Skills (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Awareness or experience of using AI‑enabled tools within finance or professional services (e.g. for billing review, data analysis, reporting, workflow automation or process improvement)
  • Interest in applying emerging technologies, including AI, to improve accuracy, efficiency and controls within billing and revenue processes
