The Company, Sharpak Aylesham, is a manufacturer of thermoformed plastic packaging for use in the Fresh Produce and Food Service divisions. Established in 1968, the site has significantly grown in recent years and aims to be the first choice for rigid plastic packaging solutions through our reliability, efficiency, and innovation as a manufacturer of sustainable packaging on a local and global platform.
Role Purpose
As part of the Packing Desk team, the aim of the role is to support a smooth, efficient and high‑quality service as the ‘link’ between the Production and Despatch departments.
Contract
Fixed Term Contract: 1 Apr 2026 to 30 Sep 2026. Shifts Available: 6 am‑2 pm, 2 pm‑10 pm or 10 pm‑6 am (£12.21 per hour + enhanced shift allowance).
Key Responsibilities
- Stack pallets with boxes from the packing belt, ensuring that the products are consistent on each pallet and stacked safely.
- Check box quality on full pallets, and wrap correctly to ensure safe transportation through the warehouse and to the customer.
- Check and adhere correct pallet labels to the appropriate pallet, double‑checking the work of others.
- Safely operate a Powered Pallet Truck (PPT), hand pallet truck, hand scanners, and other necessary equipment.
- Identify metal detection system malfunctions; complete near‑miss forms if metal detection or box damage is observed.
- Provide an adequate supply of new pallets in the Packing Desk area to ensure a smooth and continuous service.
- Follow company policy and procedures at all times to support the effective running of the Packing Desk.
- Maintain a safe working environment by keeping the Packing Desk area clean and tidy.
- Undertake such other duties that are deemed reasonable and commensurate with the role according to business needs.
Experience / Skills
- Experience in a similar role within a high‑volume manufacturing, FMCG, or fresh produce environment is advantageous.
- Team worker with a flexible approach to the role and others.
- Hands‑on approach with a keen eye for detail.
- Positive working attitude when working alone or within a team.
