The Company Sharpak Aylesham is a manufacturer of thermoformed plastic packaging for use in the Fresh Produce and Food Service divisions. Established in 1968, the site has significantly grown in recent years and aims to be the first choice for rigid plastic packaging solutions through our reliability, efficiency, and innovation as a manufacturer of sustainable packaging on a local and global platform.
Role Purpose
The Operations Supervisor will oversee the in-line extrusion and thermoforming machine. The role is important as the in-line machine is running 24/7 and is strategically important to Sharpak Aylesham. Operations Supervisors will be responsible for the quality and output from the in-line and work closely with the Thermoforming Managers to meet KPI’s.
Responsibilities
- To ensure line machines are running efficiently and targets are met.
- To ensure quality of all product meets the required standard.
- To undertake any training required and to train personnel on the In-line process.
- To ensure staffing levels are sufficient to fulfil orders including low of raw materials.
- To participate in risk assessments.
- To manage in-line area in terms of following company policy and procedures.
- To ensure a meaningful hand-over between shifts.
- Deputise for the thermoforming manager if required.
- To ensure documents required by the hygiene and quality management systems are completed in full, in relation to the work being carried out.
- To comply with all health and safety regulations and work within the company’s safe working practices.
- To work support thermoforming managers with other machine groups as and when required.
Qualifications and Training
- A good general level of education, including GCSE English and Maths C or above or equivalent is essential.
- Any forklift license, such as Reach or Counterbalance is essential.
- Fire warden training is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Experience in a supervisory role is essential.
- Experience of working in a high-volume manufacturing environment, ideally within fresh produce is desirable.
- Must be highly organised with the ability to plan, coordinate and delegate a shift work plan.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety legislative requirements is essential.
- Ability to work under pressure, managing expectations to meet deadlines and KPIs is essential.
- Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is essential.
- Ability to communicate to a high standard through written and verbal means is essential.
- Experience of motivating, training and developing staff is essential.
