The company Sharpak Aylesham is a manufacturer of thermoformed plastic packaging for use in the Fresh Produce and Food Service divisions. Role Purpose
The role of the Extrusion Line Support is to ensure the successful prepping, setting and operating of each job on both lines from start to finish, ensuring at all times that the product meets specification and quality standards. You will be responsible for successfully seeing each order through to completion or handover and will ensure that the equipment and work area you use are kept clean and made ready for the next operator to use. In collaboration with the engineering department you will be responsible for some preventative and diagnostic maintenance functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring raw materials (all constituent elements) are available at the start and throughout the production run.
- To prepare all consumables required at the start and throughout the production run.
- Amending/updating system records as required to ensure material traceability is maintained at all times.
- Programming and accurately recording the blend recipe of each production run and the completion of all digital and/or paper records relating to the run to a high degree of accuracy.
- Completing quality checks at specified intervals and recording of QA data/information.
- Printing all labels and correctly packaging all finished product in accordance with system and/or customer specifications.
- Wrapping and delivering finished products to Raw Materials Warehouse to MIL Specification or other requirements as instructed.
- To assist the Line Technicians in running the lines, making all necessary adjustments to ensure product safety and quality then recording appropriately.
- Aspire to perform all job changes within the parameters of the machine.
- Conducting basic maintenance tasks on the extruders, such as filter cleaning, screen changing, slitter blade changing, including any general cleaning where relevant.
- Responsibility for maintaining the immediate work environment around your machine to a high standard of organisation and cleanliness.
- Able to operate and safely use all auxiliary equipment, such as pallet lifters, roll turners, core cutter, pallet wrapper etc.
- Conducting scheduled cleaning as prescribed or in line with the company ‘Clean as you go policy’.
- Ensuring that all company policies and procedures are adhered to and that care is taken of your and other’s health and safety.
- To liaise with other departments to ensure resolutions of reported faults or issues with a commitment towards continual improvement and in line with the GPS.
- To ensure the information is updated on the site IT systems (Nova etc) as required.
- To check the quality of the product for defects as it is produced by the machines and pack the correct quantity as specified.
- To inform Line Technicians or Shift Supervisors if there are defects in the products immediately to reduce any wastage and to ensure only quality products are produced and packed.
- To ensure that all documents required by the hygiene and quality management systems are completed in full, in relation to the work being carried out.
- Any other task deemed reasonable by the Department Manager, commensurate with the role.
Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIRED: Any warehouse qualification (e.g. NVQ) Level 2 or above is desirable. Current forklift licence is desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Experience of working in a high-volume manufacturing environment, ideally within the plastics Industry is essential. Confident using windows‑based IT systems is desirable. Ability to work autonomously to a high standard, either alone or as part of a wider team is essential. Engineering background or experience is desirable. Experience of working within site and certification body quality standards is desirable.
