The Company Sharpak Aylesham is a manufacturer of thermoformed plastic packaging for use in the Fresh Produce and Food Service divisions. Established in 1968, the site has significantly grown in recent years and aims to be the first choice for rigid plastic packaging solutions through our reliability, efficiency, and innovation as a manufacturer of sustainable packaging on a local and global platform. Shifts Available: Nights – 10pm to 6am Rotating shift pattern – 6am-2pm/2pm-10pm Role Purpose: The main aim of the role is to provide general warehousing and manufacturing support to the operations department to help ensure an efficient and safe working environment. The role is trained to work at an operational level in multiple areas of the factory to be able to act as a ‘buffer’ where required to increase productivity and support senior colleagues with more technical aspects of the thermoforming process. Key Responsibilities: * Support the Thermoforming Manager and Setters with general production duties. * Continuously remove scrap products and record material issues and usage in accordance with Company procedures. * Ensure the glue system is topped up to maintain high machine efficiency and minimise down-time. * Packing product into boxes when required, following company procedures to a high standard. * Minimise machine stoppages where possible using preventative measures to avoid splits on the product. * Investigate and rectify minor faults and report more complex faults and issues to the Lead Setter. * Retrieval and return of tools to the tooling bays ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed appropriately. * To ensure that all documents and paperwork required by the company, including QSE quality management systems, are completed accurately and timely as directed. * To carry out a “Clean as you go” system to assist in good housekeeping and hygiene requirements and ensure that machines are cleaned after each tool change. * Compliance with all Health & Safety regulations and work within the Company’s safe working practices. * Undertake quality checks on material, including rolls, film, and product, returning to storage as necessary. * Safe operation of hand pallet truck, and any other such equipment as necessary to the role. * Undertake such other duties that are deemed reasonable and commensurate with the role according to business needs. The Person * Reliable, hard-working & enthusiastic * Experience of working in a high-volume manufacturing environment, ideally within fresh produce or FMCG. * Ability to work autonomously to a high standard, either alone or as part of a wider team. * Good communication skills with the ability to build relationships across a range of departments. * Ability to work methodically with the team, standing and/or walking for the majority of shift. * Good working attitude, including a commitment to training an ongoing personal development. * Ability to multi-task, providing support to different areas of the operations department simultaneously and juggle conflicting demands. * Basic understanding of machinery with the ability to diagnose and rectify minor faults. * An interest in manufacturing or production processes.
