The Lead Packing Desk is responsible for overseeing a team of up to three staff to ensure the smooth, safe, and timely operation of the Packing Desk. This role supports the wider Operations Department in achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) and meeting customer demand. The successful candidate will take front-line responsibility minimising down through basic troubleshooting, training, and process improvements to drive efficiency. Hours of work: Monday – Friday 6am-2pm/2pm-10pm (weekly rotation) Key Responsibilities: * Supervise and support a team of up to three Packing Desk operatives, including performance management and participation in appraisals. * Deliver job-specific training and identify further training needs, liaising with management as required. * Effectively manage break schedules to minimise operational disruption. * Communicate issues such as equipment faults, productivity losses, and software malfunctions to management; perform basic software troubleshooting where possible. * Take ownership of Packing Desk operations and continually seek improvements to processes and workflow efficiency. * Ensure the health and safety of the Packing Desk area, assisting with risk assessments when necessary. * Stack pallets with boxed products from the packing belt, ensuring consistency and safe stacking. * Conduct quality checks on packed boxes and ensure pallets are correctly wrapped for safe transport. * Ensure accurate application of pallet labels to the appropriate pallets. * Operate equipment safely, including Powered Pallet Trucks (PPT), hand pallet trucks, hand scanners, and other necessary tools. * Monitor for metal detection system malfunctions and report incidents using near-miss documentation as needed. * Maintain an adequate supply of new pallets to keep packing operations continuous and efficient. * Adhere to all company policies and procedures to support the smooth running of the Packing Desk. * Carry out any other reasonable duties in line with the role and business needs. Experience/Skills * Previous experience supervising or managing staff, including performance management and appraisals. * Experience delivering on-the-job training and identifying team training needs. * Background in a high-volume manufacturing, warehouse, or fresh produce environment. * Strong communication skills with confidence to delegate and lead a team effectively. * Physically able to lift boxes weighing up to 20kg on a repetitive basis. * High standard of adherence to health & safety procedures. * A positive, proactive work ethic, whether working alone or as part of a team. * Basic computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office applications. * Ability to problem-solve and suggest practical improvements to working processes.
