Role: Reporting into the Facilities & Engineering Manager, the Shift Engineer will provide an effective maintenance service to ensure that all machinery, plant, equipment, site structures, car parks, utilities and landscapes are, at all times, in good working order and of a high standard of repair. You will support production by resolving breakdowns and delivering planned maintenance. You will also drive improvement across the site in terms of machinery, hygiene, quality, and performance.
Responsibilities:
- To maintain all plant, machinery and equipment to ensure complete availability to meet production demands at all times.
- Control daily maintenance and set ups of machinery and equipment, including breakdowns and preventative maintenance, keeping accurate maintenance logs and records within the electronic asset management system.
- Ensure work is carried out to the highest possible standards, in a clean and orderly manner across the whole of the site.
- Develop an understanding of setting and maintaining primary packaging equipment and processes.
- Undertake manufacturing support duties in accordance with schedules involving effective communication and working with other departments.
- Troubleshoot and identify process and operational conditions and respond to them.
- Have basic knowledge of instrumentation and mechanical systems such as controllers, indicators, control valves, sensors, pumps, etc.
- Have strong knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits and installations.
- Contribute to a culture of safety first in compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS).
- Train and explain process to others and ensure execution of processes in production while strictly adhering to cGMP, environmental health and safety guidelines and any other related regulations which could apply.
- Attend to breakdowns onsite ensuring a rapid response and that plant equipment and machinery breakdown time is minimal.
- Carrying out maintenance in Low Risk, High Care and High-risk environments, always adhering to technical procedures and Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP).
- To ensure that all machinery and equipment complies with the Health and Safety (H&S) regulations and that all maintenance is carried out using Safe Systems of Work.
- Assist with the inventory of spares on site and maintain stock at correct levels.
- Liaise effectively with external maintenance contractors and ensure that GMP and HSE standards are met.
- In conjunction with the Facilities & Engineering Manager evaluate any new machinery or equipment to assess suitability and cost.
- In conjunction with the development teams assess any changes to plant machinery or equipment, which will allow for improvements in quality, scope, and profitability of the product portfolio.
- Carry out regular and routine site checks including plant rooms, all site structures, car parks and landscape to assess for damage. Undertake repairs to the same or if necessary, report to the Facilities & Engineering Manager.
- Assist in the inspection of all industrial plant and service utilities and liaise with suppliers and contract engineers when required.
- Be responsible for adherence to H&S policy, procedure, and targets. Ensures all H&S standards are met and drive H&S standards.
- Provide good reporting and communication between Production, the Engineering team, and Engineering management, as appropriate.
- Perform any other duties, which may reasonably be requested, in association with the role in order to meet the needs of the business.

Essential:
- Minimum of 3 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Relevant HNC/ONC qualification and time served.
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- Experience of PLC, Refrigeration, Control Voltages, 3 Phase Distribution.
- Multi-skilled with formal engineering qualification to NVQ Level 3 or higher, in an electrical or mechanical subject.
- Must be PC literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic asset management.
- Strong communicator both verbally and written.
- Knowledge and understanding of H&S.
- Flexibility, be a team player and be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Good organisational skills, able to plan personal workload and ensure that colleagues deliver to agreed timescales.
- Good time management β meeting deadlines.
Desirable:
- Experience working in a CGMP manufacturing environment.
- Experience in the setting and maintenance of Blister and bottle line packaging equipment.
- Experience in the maintaining and setting of serialisation equipment.
- Understanding of a BMS system.
- Understanding of HVAC systems and operation.
- Fork truck / MEWP licence.
