A well-established and growing manufacturing business based in Rotherham with a turnover of c£30 million+ is seeking an Operational Financial Controller to join its senior finance team. The company has recently promoted its Finance Director internally and is now looking for a strong number two to help drive both financial performance and operational efficiency across the business. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys being close to operations and influencing decision-making across the organisation.
The Role
Reporting directly to the newly promoted Finance Director, you will take ownership of the finance functions day-to-day management while playing a key role in operational and strategic decision-making. You will lead and develop a team of four within finance and work closely with operational leaders across manufacturing, supply chain, and commercial functions to improve performance and profitability. This is a highly visible role within the business, offering a genuine opportunity to influence the operational and financial direction of the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership
- Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Provide insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial risk.
- Operational Finance
- Partner with operations to drive manufacturing efficiency and cost control.
- Analyse production costs, margins, and operational KPIs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing process.
- Improve systems, reporting processes, and financial visibility across departments.
- Provide financial support for capital investment decisions.
- Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four finance professionals.

About You
The ideal candidate will be a proactive and commercially focused finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Key requirements:
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager role.
- Background within manufacturing, engineering, or product-based businesses.
- Strong operational finance experience and business partnering capability.
- Experience managing and developing finance teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence non-finance stakeholders.
