With a legacy of innovation and excellence alongside significant investment in the wider team, a newly created Machine Shop Director has been created to join their leadership team in Leeds and drive world-class machining operations across the group.
The Role:
As Machine Shop Director, you will take strategic and operational ownership of the advanced machining facilities including managing complex new and nearly-new CNC machines with individual values up to £2 million.
You’ll lead a team of skilled engineers and machinists, ensuring delivery of complex components to the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety including medium and heavy engineering across the aerospace sector.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading all machine shop operations across multiple sites, with a focus on continuous improvement and lean manufacturing.
- Managing budgets, KPIs, workforce planning, and capital investment in CNC and manual machining technologies.
- Collaborating closely with design, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless manufacturing of high-precision components.
- Driving digital transformation, automation, and skills development to maintain the company’s position at the forefront of British engineering.
About You:
- Proven leadership experience in a senior machining or manufacturing role, ideally within precision engineering, defence, rail, or energy sectors.
- Strong understanding of CNC programming, tooling, and modern machining methods.
- Track record of delivering operational excellence and driving change in a demanding manufacturing environment.
- Confident, hands-on leader with excellent communication skills
