A leading independent logistics/distribution business based in Harrogate, is experiencing exceptional growth and is now looking for a Financial Controller to join one of its exciting emerging divisions.
Having outperformed the market and delivered exceptional year-on-year growth over the past four years, the business is entering an exciting new phase.
This is a key appointment for an ambitious, commercially minded senior management accountant/finance manager who wants to take ownership of their own finance division, develop a team and play a genuine role in shaping the future growth of the business.
The successful candidate will be a CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified accountant with strong commercial awareness and the confidence to work closely with senior management and the Board.
Reporting to the Finance Director you will take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the finance function while providing commercial insight to support business growth and profitability.
Key responsibilities will include
- Ensuring the timely and accurate production of monthly management accounts, including income statements, balance sheets and cash flow reporting.
- Preparing and managing annual budgets, monitoring performance against agreed targets and KPIs.
- Overseeing and managing cash flow, identifying and highlighting positive and negative variances and recommending appropriate action.
- Reporting directly to the Board, presenting financial performance and identifying opportunities to improve profitability and business performance.
- Working closely with the external audit team and supporting the production of year-end statutory accounts.
- Liaising regularly with internal and external stakeholders, communicating financial information clearly to non-finance teams.
- Leading, developing and mentoring the existing finance team.
- Providing financial and commercial input into potential future acquisitions, including supporting due diligence and evaluating opportunities.
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting and controls as the business continues to grow.
Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced, dynamic and growing business, ideally as a Senior Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Financial Controller.
- Experience of leading, developing or mentoring a finance team.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insight.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work with senior stakeholders and non-finance departments.
- A proven track record of delivering accurate work to tight deadlines.
- Strong Excel skills and experience using Sage.
- Experience within a subscription-based, property, construction or service-sector business would be advantageous, although this is not essential.
