Sharp Consultancy are working with an established and growing business based in Chesterfield who is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Accounts Assistant to take ownership of the finance function in a varied standalone role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working autonomously, taking responsibility for the day-to-day accounts while supporting the wider business with financial information.

Reporting directly into the senior leadership team, you'll play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the finance function and will have the opportunity to make a genuine impact within a friendly and supportive business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the purchase and sales ledger functions
  • Credit control and maintaining strong customer relationships
  • Bank reconciliations and cashflow monitoring
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Processing payroll (or liaising with an external payroll provider)
  • Producing monthly management accounts up to trial balance
  • Month-end and year-end procedures
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assisting with budgeting and forecasting
  • Liaising with external accountants and auditors
  • Supporting the wider business with financial reporting and analysis

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in a standalone or senior accounts position
  • Strong knowledge of transactional finance and month-end processes
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied workload
  • A proactive and hands-on approach
  • Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting software
  • AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA/CIMA would be advantageous but is not essential
