I’m working with a successful, family-run engineering business based in Barnsley that has built a reputation not only for the quality of its work, but for the people behind it.
They’re now looking to bring an experienced Sales Ledger Clerk into their finance team — someone who wants more than just a job and would enjoy becoming part of a business where people know each other, look out for one another and take real pride in what they do.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys having ownership and autonomy in their role. You'll be trusted to manage your workload, keep things moving and take responsibility for your area of finance. At the same time, you'll be part of a genuinely supportive team where everyone is happy to help each other out.
It's a down-to-earth environment, with a strong family feel and a team that gets on well.
What you'll be doing
You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the sales ledger, making sure customer accounts are accurate, payments are allocated correctly and queries are dealt with promptly.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Managing the sales ledger from invoice through to payment
-
Raising and processing sales invoices and credit notes
-
Allocating customer payments
-
Reconciling customer accounts
-
Monitoring outstanding debt and supporting credit control activity
-
Investigating and resolving invoice and payment queries
-
Liaising with customers and internal departments
-
Assisting with month-end processes
-
Keeping financial records accurate and up to date
-
Taking ownership of your workload and ensuring deadlines are met
What you'll need
-
Previous experience within Sales Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Credit Control or a similar finance role
-
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
-
Confidence managing your own workload and working with autonomy
-
Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively
-
Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
-
Comfortable speaking with customers and resolving queries
-
Good Excel and general IT skills
-
A proactive approach — someone who will take ownership and get things done
-
A team player who enjoys working collaboratively and supporting colleagues
-
A positive, reliable attitude and genuine pride in your work
-
Ideally, someone looking for a long-term opportunity within a stable, family-run business
Benefits
-
Flexible working hours to support a healthy work-life balance
-
Comprehensive training and ongoing professional development
-
Opportunities for career progression and growth
-
Supportive and collaborative working environment
-
Access to learning and development opportunities
If you're looking for a Sales Ledger role where you can have autonomy, be trusted to do your job, take ownership and work alongside a genuinely great team, this could be an excellent next move.
