Day Rate: Competitive, aligned to a permanent equivalent of circa £55,000–£70,000
The Opportunity
We are working with a well-established, privately owned SME manufacturer based in Scunthorpe, who are looking to appoint an Interim Financial Controller at short notice.
This is a hands-on interim assignment within a small but growing business with genuine ambition and financing. The successful candidate will take ownership of the finance function, provide stability and continuity, and ensure the business continues to receive accurate and timely financial information whilst a permanent Financial Controller is recruited.
The assignment is expected to continue until the permanent appointment is in place, so the exact duration will depend upon the notice period of the successful permanent candidate.
The Role
This is a true SME Financial Controller position for someone who is comfortable being hands-on, detail-focused and prepared to roll their sleeves up.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Production of accurate monthly financial accounts
- Preparation and delivery of management accounts
- Overseeing and supporting a small finance team
- Taking ownership of the day-to-day finance function
- Ensuring appropriate financial controls and processes are maintained
- Providing accurate financial information and analysis to the wider business
- Supporting the business with its ongoing growth and development
- Managing the finance function through the transition to a permanent appointment
- Ensuring an effective handover to the incoming permanent Financial Controller
- The business is also in the later stages of implementing NetSuite, so experience with NetSuite or another similar ERP system would be advantageous.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similarly qualified finance professional who is immediately comfortable operating within an SME environment.
You will ideally have:
- Previous Financial Controller or senior finance management experience within an SME
- Strong financial and management accounting experience
- Experience overseeing a small finance team
- A hands-on approach and excellent attention to detail
- The ability to quickly understand a business and take ownership of the finance function
- Strong systems and ERP experience; NetSuite experience would be advantageous
- The ability to work at short notice and provide immediate stability to the business
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to operate independently
- Most importantly, you will be someone who can hit the ground running, quickly establish control and provide a high level of financial support during a period of transition.
