Main duties:
- Work with and support a Registered Nurse to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.
- Provide direct care, ongoing assessment, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.
- Uphold NMC standards, contribute to care planning, and manage medicines within guidance.
- Support, supervise, and develop junior staff and students while promoting equality and patient rights.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to service improvement within the hospice.

Job responsibilities:
- Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and relevant professional guidelines and be accountable for their own professional practice, including the Clinical Skills for Band 4 Nursing Associate framework.
- Use up-to-date knowledge and evidence when delivering care, advising and promoting health and well-being, performing nursing procedures and using devices to meet individuals’ care needs in a safe and effective manner.
- Make person-centred, evidence-based judgements in partnership with others involved in the care process to ensure high quality care.
- Accurately undertake risk assessments using approved documents and assessment tools.
- Use agreed patient protocols, standard operating procedures, and clinical guidelines which reference actions in accordance with the outcome of the risk assessment.
- Plan and organise own workload and that of others, delegating appropriately and monitoring the effectiveness of any care delivered.
- Deliver care collaboratively with patients/clients, families, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
- Act autonomously within your own level of competency to undertake specific interventions and treatments.
- Recognise the limits of own competency and appropriately request supervision of the Registered Practitioner to ensure safe, high-quality care.
- Maintain competence in mandatory and statutory training, develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge related to the area of clinical practice.
- Deliver and coordinate clinical and therapeutic care to a caseload of patients as delegated by the Registered Nurse/regulated practitioner.
- Ensure all interventions are patient-centred, delivered with compassion and dignity, and escalate poor practice/performance.
- Respond to patients, relatives and carers’ concerns and take remedial action as required, escalating appropriately.
- Be aware of clinical deterioration, emergencies, cardiac arrest, fires and major incidents and take appropriate action to ensure service continuity.
- Monitor the condition and health needs of people in care in partnership with people, families and carers.
- Contribute to ongoing assessment and recognise when it is necessary to refer for reassessment or expert help and advice.
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications:
- Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
- Educated to a minimum Level 5 Foundation Degree specific to Nursing Associate Practice
- GCSEs Grade A–C in Maths and English or equivalent
Experience:
- Experience relating to ward specialism
- Basic level of dealing with service users with complex health needs
Additional Criteria:
- Decision making, delegation and problem solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- IT skills appropriate to the role
- Ability to work well in a team
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
- Able to recognise own limitations in the context of the nursing associate role
