A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on a research grant that looks to advance our understanding of embodied carbon and design in the built environment.
This role will see the successful candidate working with Professor Orr to advance research in the field of construction and structural engineering.
The post will focus on efforts to reduce whole life embodied carbon of built assets.

- MEICON

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
Responsibilities
- Research and Scholarship
- To analyse results of the second "MEICON" survey and prepare a report on their results. See www. meicon. net.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies.
- Write up research for presentation and publications.
- Manage own research and administrative activities.
- Liaison and networking
- Liaise with colleagues and students.
- Build internal and external contacts and participate in networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for collaboration.
- Planning and organising
- Plan and manage own research activity in collaboration with others.
- Contribute to planning of joint research projects led by the principal investigator.
Qualifications and Experience
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a Ph D (or close to obtaining) in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience; Understanding of embodied carbon and design; Evidence of interdisciplinary working that covers structural engineering, architecture, and construction; Ability to analyse survey data and draw conclusions; Ability to lead workshops and prepare workshop materials; Ability to engage with industrial partners in a collaborative manner; Excellent written English skills.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a Ph D, or equivalent experience.
Those who have submitted but not yet received their Ph D will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the Ph D has been awarded.
