The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering is looking for a Lecturer in Structural Engineering to conduct world leading research and help facilitate the education of our students.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and teach in one or more of the following fields: Structural form finding, Digital tools for structural optimisation (not only for structural component or joint optimisation).
- The teaching and learning environment includes a range of teaching methods with online or in-person delivery, including lecturing, tutorials with large and small groups, placement visits, studio teaching and preparation of online learning resources.
- The activities will range from lectures with around 250 students to 1:1 studio teaching.
- This teaching role covers all aspects of the design, delivery and development of education on the University of Bath’s taught programmes.
- Research will be affiliated to one of our multidisciplinary Faculty research centres and will involve developing research funding proposals, conducting research, supervising and mentoring students, producing high quality research publications and engaging with industry and the public to promote research findings.
- An ongoing commitment to continuing professional development and scholarship is expected, including active participation in the development of education.
Qualifications
- Emerging research profile with some initial funding and a growing publication profile (lecturer level).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other professions involved in the design of buildings and infrastructure is required.
- A PhD in a relevant discipline is essential.
- Should you not already hold a formal teaching qualification, you will be supported by the University through our Higher Education Academy accredited teaching development programme.
- Strong leadership potential is desirable, with the ambition to take on leadership roles within and/or outside the Department.
- Job share is possible, provided the role’s requirements are covered.
- Expected commitment is 40% of the time employed by the University.
