In addition, we provide technical support to external clients, developers, contractors, and other local authorities.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage and lead a Team of up to eight Engineers and Technicians.
  • Attend and play an active role within the Bridge Management Team.
  • Oversee and sign off feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, assessments, and contract documents for new structural work and maintenance projects.
  • Oversee the design of strengthening and remedial measures as necessary to ensure continued safe functioning of highway structures.
  • Establish and agree solutions with interested parties which satisfy both engineering and environmental considerations.
  • Plan, programme, and deliver design and assessment projects to client requirements.
  • Deliver projects within allocated resources, budgets and timelines.
  • Liaise with, and report to, the Chief Engineer Structures.
  • Communicate and liaise with clients, contractors and regulatory and statutory authorities.
  • Comply with the duties of the CDM regulations with respect to the duties of Designers and the Principal Designer to ensure the safe design and long term management of structures.
  • Maintain personal technical and relevant project management expertise.
  • Provide technical guidance, support, and training to Engineers and Technicians, and be responsible for work produced.

What we’re looking for:

To be successful in the role you will have the following knowledge, skills, and qualifications:

  • Educated to Degree level in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Civil/Structural Engineer, substantial experience working within a highway structures environment.
  • Ability to recruit, lead, develop, and motivate staff.

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure that timescales and budgets are met.
  • In-depth understanding of Eurocodes, British Standards and assessment codes.
  • Working knowledge of the application of structural analysis programs.
  • Good communication skills and a high standard of report writing.
  • Sound understanding of the CDM Regulations.
  • You will be required to travel to various locations within Hampshire, and it is essential that you have a current drivers’ licence and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.

Within your application, please demonstrate how you meet the essential qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience.
