Inspire the next generation of animal care professionals in one of Hampshire’s most unique learning environments. As a BTEC Animal Care Tutor you will deliver inspiring, interactive and educational sessions for students and visiting groups, promote meaningful engagement with animals, act as a professional ambassador for Staunton Farm, and support teachers and group leaders to maximise learning outcomes during visits.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the BTEC Animal Care specification.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and resources that integrate theoretical knowledge with hands-on animal care.
- Deliver teaching across classroom and practical farm environments, making effective use of facilities and animals.
- Assess learner work in accordance with BTEC standards, including coursework, assignments and practical assessments.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support learner development and achievement.
Operational Management
- Organise and coordinate teaching sessions and practical activities effectively.
- Maintain teaching resources and ensure readiness for delivery.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to align education programmes with farm operations.
- Ensure efficient day-to-day running of learning activities in line with operational requirements.
Risk Management
- Ensure safe working practices in all teaching and practical activities.
- Carry out risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures.
- Ensure safe handling of animals, equipment and tools.
- Comply fully with health and safety legislation, safeguarding and animal welfare standards.
Safeguarding Duties
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times.
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
- Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model.
- Remain vigilant to signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation or welfare concerns.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and report to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Ensure all learning activities are risk assessed with safeguarding considerations embedded.
- Support vulnerable learners, including those with additional needs or mental health challenges.
- Promote personal safety, wellbeing and respectful behaviour.
- Accurately record and report safeguarding concerns in line with procedures.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external agencies where required.
- Undertake regular safeguarding training and maintain up-to-date knowledge.

- Understand and implement all corporate policies relevant to the role.
- Promote health and safety, equality, diversity and sustainability objectives.
- Ensure compliance with organisational and statutory requirements.
Maintenance and Development
- Ensure the safe use, storage and maintenance of tools, equipment and resources.
- Support the maintenance of animal areas and learning environments.
- Continuously review teaching delivery and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Update procedures and contribute to the development of new learning opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience
We seek a tutor who can build positive relationships with young people while maintaining effective group management. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills and be confident in engaging students and supporting their individual needs. Relevant Animal Care qualifications or industry experience would be an advantage, but we will also consider applications without this background.
