We are now seeking a strategic and confident Director of Law & Monitoring Officer to play a central role in that journey.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will provide organisation‑wide leadership for legal and governance services while fulfilling the statutory responsibilities of Monitoring Officer. You will help lead a governance reset, strengthen member‑officer relationships, and ensure the council operates with integrity, clarity and strong professional standards. This is a highly visible corporate role – one that requires sound judgement, political awareness, and a pragmatic, solution‑focused approach.

About You

  • You will be a credible senior leader with strong governance experience and the confidence to operate in a complex political environment.
  • You may already be a Monitoring Officer or Director, or ready to step up into your first statutory role.
  • Strong professional judgement and political awareness.
