Overview
We are looking to recruit a Senior Finance Officer (SFO). This role plays a vital role in supporting the Finance Manager (FM) and Deputy Chief Finance Officer (DCFO) in delivering a high‑quality, accurate, and compliant finance service across the Trust. Working closely with the trust Finance Assistants, the SFO is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial systems and data for a portfolio of academies.
Responsibilities
The role ensures that monthly financial tasks and checklists are completed in line with Trust timelines, and that financial records are accurate, consistent, and compliant with Trust policies. The Senior Finance Officer acts as the key liaison between academy‑based staff and central services, particularly working closely with Academy Admin Managers to ensure smooth financial operations.
Hours: 37 hours per week, all year round. The role has availability for hybrid working (2 out of 5 days). We are open to discussing term‑time working arrangements by mutual agreement. Salary will be calculated on a pro‑rata basis.
Ideal Candidate
- Significant experience in a finance role, ideally within the education or public sector
- AAT Level 3 or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Ability to manage monthly routines and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with financial systems and reconciliation processes
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
- Experience with school income and payment systems, including reconciliation of catering and other service‑related transactions
