We are looking for an experienced catering tutor who could join our bank staff. We provide training courses for adults with learning disabilities and autism. Our catering training gives students the opportunity to learn practical cooking and hospitality skills in a supportive environment. Students gain hands-on experience preparing meals for the Share community and developing the skills needed to work safely and confidently in a kitchen.

As a bank worker with us, you would be responsible for stepping in to provide cover during staff absence. Students take part in catering sessions for educational or wellbeing progression and your main responsibilities would be to support and train our students in the full range of catering and food preparation skills needed for appropriate external qualifications.

A key part of the catering project is preparing lunch for the wider student body each day. This means working with students to plan menus, prepare ingredients and cook meals at scale while maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety.

Work is offered on an as-needed basis once you are added to our bank staff. There is no guarantee of work; however, we are looking for people who are happy to be contacted at short notice to provide relief or can be booked for block weeks in advance.

What we are looking for:

  • People who have a catering qualification or occupational competency and have experience of delivering teaching or training.
  • A confident cook with a can-do attitude.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety within a kitchen.
  • Experience of cooking for larger groups and batch cooking would be beneficial.

Main responsibilities:

  • To support learning, encourage and supervise adults with learning disabilities and autism in catering activities which will assist the development of skills, experience, confidence and independence, and ultimately lead them to gaining qualifications.
  • To support learning in an inclusive way, encouraging students to work at their best and to stay motivated and engaged with the task at hand.
  • To ensure you are following good health and safety and food hygiene practice to ensure students are kept safe within the kitchen environment.

We actively encourage applications from people from minoritised ethnic communities and with lived experience of a learning disability and/or autism. This is because we believe our staff should reflect the diversity of our student body wherever possible in order to provide the best possible service.

If you would like to have a chat about the role or visit us prior to applying, please contact a member of the HR team at hradmin@sharecommunity.org.uk.

We focus on ability and believe people work best when they feel valued, safe and happy. We do all that we can to make sure that Share is friendly and welcoming to everyone. All CVs and applications are sanitised to ensure unbiased recruitment.

This job is subject to two satisfactory references, evidence of qualifications, an enhanced DBS check and providing evidence of the right to work in the UK.
