Join us at Share Bristol, Bristol and South Gloucestershire's Library of Things, to help us protect the environment and support local communities by providing the Things people need to live their lives. As a Trustee you will see first‑hand the pleasure that a Library of Things brings to local people - from the dawning realisation that they will be able to access the Things they need when you explain the concept to someone for the first time, to seeing someone come back to borrow time and time again as they work on a big project.

Through our work we reduce the amount of goods that people buy, and the amount of packaging and items that end up in landfill. We make accessing things affordable, bringing parties, DIY projects, deep cleaning and camping holidays within people’s reach. We also help bring people together by fostering a sense of community.

We are looking for someone who is practical by nature, able to understand physical spaces and how best to operate them, but also has a grip on the paperwork needed. You should take Health and Safety seriously and support our staff and volunteers in safe systems of work. Experience of premises open to visitors or volunteers, or working with tools and maintenance equipment, would be a bonus.

What will you be doing? We’re at an exciting time in our journey, as we prepare to open our fourth location. You will help lead our Premises, Property and Health and Safety work, ensuring our organisation is as good as it can be and considering our strategy for the future while listening to our local community, being inclusive and responding to local demand.

  • Identifying proactive and reactive maintenance needs.
  • Understanding the legalities of operating a premises open to the public, ensuring compliance with regulations and operating safely.
  • Liaising with landlords, contractors and utility companies to secure the best deals and operate efficiently from our locations.
  • Assisting our part‑time staff team in compliance with building and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Assisting with the best physical set‑up for our locations, in terms of furniture, racking, etc.

We are looking for Trustees who complement our existing skills and experience to make us a fully rounded team of experts who will ensure we are financially sustainable and making an impact in the local community and beyond. Our team is friendly and welcoming, as well as motivated and enthusiastic, and therefore a pleasure to volunteer with. All are welcome and we are particularly keen to hear from people belonging to groups who are under‑represented in the environmental field.
