Our vision is that everybody shares. Join us at Share Bristol, Bristol and South Gloucestershire's Library of Things, to help us protect the environment and support local communities, through providing the Things people need to live their lives.

As a Trustee with Share Bristol you will see first hand the pleasure that a Library of Things can bring to local people - from the dawning realisation that they will be able to access the Things they need when you are explaining the concept to someone for the first time, to seeing someone come back to borrow time and time again as they work on a big project and tell you about its progress.

Through our work we reduce the amount of goods that people buy, and the amount of packaging and eventually items that end up in landfill. We make accessing things affordable, bringing parties, DIY projects, deep cleaning and camping holidays within people's reach. And we help bring people together, through fostering a sense of community.

As a Trustee, you will be part of this, and help us increase our impact even more.

We are looking for someone who is good at bringing organisations together - who can spot opportunities, mutual benefits and strategic alignment. This would ideally be developed through experience with community groups or charities, but this is not essential. You will need to be approachable and engaging, a strong and clear communicator, able to relate to diverse groups and organisations. You need to be someone who people want to work with.

We’re at an exciting time in our journey, as we prepare to open our fourth location. So, we are seeking to enhance our Trustee team to increase our capacity, and are looking for someone to lead our Partnerships work.

As a Trustee, you will be part of a team leading Share Bristol as we ensure our organisation is as good as it can be, and consider our strategy for the future, whilst listening to our local community, being inclusive, and responding to local demand. We already make a difference in many ways, including reduction in waste, creating more space in homes and giving people better access to things, but could do more!

We're looking for someone who is experienced in identifying suitable partner organisations and bringing groups together. At Share Bristol this might be:

  • finding and working with community groups to bring Share Bristol to their neighbourhood
  • working with another organisation on a joint project, such as running workshops on how to use the Things Share Bristol has available to borrow
  • persuading local businesses to support us, Housing Associations to provide memberships for their residents, or Scout and Guide groups to recommend us for camping gear and much more.

We know we can achieve so much more in partnership with others, and want to develop with local communities, so that they feel that they have a real stake in Share Bristol.

We are looking for Trustees who complement our existing skills and experience to make us a fully rounded team of experts who will ensure we are financially sustainable and making an impact in the local community and beyond. Our team is friendly and welcoming, as well as motivated and enthusiastic, and therefore a pleasure to volunteer with.

All are welcome and we are particularly keen to hear from people belonging to groups who are under-represented in the environmental field.
