About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join our Operations team at our Kings Norton site in Birmingham.

This is a hands‑on engineering role with responsibility for ensuring thesafe, reliable and continuous operation of our production machinery, plant and building services.

You will play a key role in maintaining and improving equipment reliability, minimising downtime and supporting our production teams. You will also lead and develop the Maintenance team, helping to build a proactive, preventative maintenance culture across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Maintenance team, including allocation of work, performance management, appraisals, recruitment, training and development.
  • Develop and continuously improve preventative and predictive maintenance programmes.
  • Diagnose, fault‑find and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control system faults across production machinery and site services.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), predictive maintenance and reactive maintenance.
  • Fault‑find, modify and improve PLC‑controlled systems and automated equipment where required.
  • Install, test, commission and modify machinery, electrical equipment and plant.
  • Respond promptly to equipment faults and emergency breakdowns to minimise production disruption.
  • Monitor maintenance KPIs and implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure machinery, plant and electrical installations are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition and comply with relevant statutory requirements.
  • Oversee statutory inspections and compliance activities, including PAT, fixed wiring inspections, thermal imaging, LOLER and pressure systems.
  • Ensure equipment requiring calibration is maintained and certified in accordance with company and legislative requirements.
  • Manage external contractors and specialist service providers, ensuring work is completed safely and in line with company procedures.
  • Support engineering, capital improvement and continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, compliance documentation and asset histories.
  • Manage maintenance purchasing, including sourcing parts, materials and specialist services.
  • Monitor maintenance expenditure and work within the agreed maintenance budget.
  • Liaise with insurers, regulatory inspectors and external providers regarding compliance and specialist maintenance requirements.
  • Carry out fabrication and welding activities where required to support maintenance operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with the company's Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality Management Systems.

About You

We are looking for someone who is proactive, practical and confident working in a busy manufacturing environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong electrical engineering knowledge and an electrical bias.
  • Experience fault‑finding electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control systems.
  • Experience working with PLC‑controlled machinery and automated equipment.
  • Knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Experience leading or supervising a maintenance/engineering team.
  • A strong understanding of electrical safety, statutory compliance and safe systems of work.
  • Good problem‑solving and diagnostic skills.
  • The ability to prioritise effectively and respond calmly to breakdowns and production pressures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with Production and Engineering teams.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • The ability to manage contractors, suppliers and external service providers.
  • A flexible approach to working hours to meet business requirements.

Working Requirements

The role may involve:

  • Out‑of‑hours work to support production or respond to breakdowns.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites, suppliers or training activities.
  • Flexibility around working hours to support business requirements.
