We are working with a major player in the energy and infrastructure sector to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to join a small, high-performing in-house legal team for a 12 month FTC. This is a broad, hands-on role offering exposure to complex commercial, construction, regulatory and operational matters within a highly technical environment.
You will provide legal support across a wide range of commercial, operational and compliance matters, working closely with the Head of Legal and senior stakeholders across the business.
Key responsibilities include:- Advising the Asset Management team on:
- Existing O&M and EPC contracts, including defect liability matters
- Support and repair contracts for ongoing asset maintenance
- New small-scale construction projects
- Supporting matters relating to grid connection arrangements, property instruments, land access agreements and cable route crossings
- Supplier and consultancy agreements
- IT systems and services agreements
- Agreements with energy trading counterparties
- Arrangements with Transmission System Operators
- Customer agreements
- Capacity auction and sale frameworks
You will be a confident, commercially minded lawyer who enjoys working closely with the business and taking ownership of matters.
Key requirements:- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 4 yearsβ PQE
- Background in:
- An in-house legal team within a multinational engineering, construction or energy business, or
- Private practice with strong exposure to relevant sectors
- Construction law (including NEC contracts)
- Dispute resolution
- Managing external legal counsel
- Legal compliance and/or company secretarial matters
- Exposure to the electricity transmission or distribution sector is beneficial but not essential
This role requires close collaboration with the existing legal team and key business functions including Asset Management, Projects, Market Operations and Finance. There is flexibility around core working hours, with travel required only occasionally.
