About Shaftesbury
Shaftesbury is a disability charity offering care, education, vocational and rehab services. The charity also provides residential care, nursing and supported living. Within the education sector, Shaftesbury has one school, Shaftesbury Victoria School, and 2 further education colleges, Shaftesbury Millie College and Shaftesbury Nash College. The school is for students aged 3-19, and the colleges are for students aged 16-25. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as physical and/or intellectual disabilities, and some have profound and complex learning needs.
About The Role
We are seeking an ambitious and skilled Teacher of Physical Education to teach PE across all pathways (3β19), delivering a high-quality, inclusive curriculum that develops independence, physical literacy and lifelong wellbeing. You will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons and oversee student progress across PE and accredited pathways. This role includes responsibility for extra-curricular sport, enrichment opportunities and supporting staff deployment within the Physical Wellbeing team. You will be responsible for maintaining exceptional standards of care, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and positive experience for students. Your role will focus on meeting individual needs with dignity and respect, creating an environment where every student feels valued and supported. Together alongside your colleagues as a team, you will foster a culture of safety, compliance, and excellence. This collaborative approach is essential to delivering high quality support for students with special educational needs, helping them thrive both socially and academically. You will bring proven experience of delivering practical PE in inclusive settings, with the ability to engage students with diverse physical and learning needs. You will effectively lead and deploy support staff within lessons, ensuring high-quality provision, safe practice, and maximum student engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality PE lessons across all pathways
- Embed assessment, progress tracking and intervention in PE and Swimming
- Deliver accredited sport courses and inclusive enrichment opportunities
- Effectively deploy and support staff within PE provision
- Organise extra-curricular clubs, trips and sporting events
- Manage and maximise use of the therapy pool
- Build strong relationships with parents, staff and external partners
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or willingness to obtain within 2 years.
- Experience teaching students with SEND, including physical needs
- Strong knowledge of PE curriculum, assessment and inclusive practice
- Ability to lead, motivate and support a team
- Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour and health & safety requirements
- Effective communication with a range of stakeholders
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
