About Shaftesbury

Shaftesbury is a disability charity offering care, education, vocational and rehab services. The charity also provides residential care, nursing and supported living. Within the education sector, Shaftesbury has one school, Shaftesbury Victoria School, and 2 further education colleges, Shaftesbury Millie College and Shaftesbury Nash College. The school is for students aged 3-19, and the colleges are for students aged 16-25. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as physical and/or intellectual disabilities, and some have profound and complex learning needs.

About The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and compassionate Teacher to join our highly skilled team providing high quality, personalised teaching and support to our students. You will be responsible for a class, working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver tailored and engaging learning experiences. Ideally, you will have experience working with ASC students and the EYFS curriculum as our school. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a thriving special needs school where you can have a real impact on students’ progress and wellbeing. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and empathetic, with a passion for inclusive education. You will need a calm and adaptable approach and be able to inspire our students, helping to develop their confidence and resilience, to build positive relationships and to recognise and celebrate achievements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of students
  • Assess, record and report on student progress, adapting teaching strategies to maximise achievement
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to support students’ development
  • Foster a supportive, safe and stimulating classroom environment that promotes independence and wellbeing
  • Engage with families and carers to support student progress and wellbeing
  • Participate in staff meetings, training and school initiatives
  • Uphold the values and ethos of the school at all times

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher status (Essential)
  • Additional qualification in the education of children with SEN (Desirable)
  • Experience of working with ASC / SEN students (Desirable)
