Shaftesbury Millie College is a post 16-25 education setting helping young people with a range of learning and physical disabilities in Dorset and the local area, bridging the gap between education and employment. Students are supported with personalised learning programmes which build confidence and independence, underpinned by a focus on wellbeing.

The College delivers personalised learning through a bespoke methodology of class, outdoor and community-based learning spaces, depending on the learners’ choice, interests and future ambitions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a committed individual to make a key contribution to developing the role of Co-Tutor within the College. You will provide class-based professional support for a tutor and work closely with the support team based in that class to develop the personalised provision for our learners.

Key Responsibilities

  • To lead the planned programme of student activities and provide PPA cover for the Tutor.
  • To be a member of the student-facing College education team working under the direction of a class Tutor to support the design, delivery of a personalised curriculum to individuals and whole groups.
  • To support the Tutor in ensuring the collection of evidence for assessment and recording of learner progress.
  • To be involved in personal and physical care, including moving and handling, and will work to health and safety guidelines ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students.
  • You will work in conjunction with the education and pastoral teams to enable students to make continued progress in their education programmes.

You Must Be Able To Show

  • Evidence of continued professional and personal development.
  • Evidence of good level of general educational attainment to level 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent.
  • You will have a minimum of a level 2 qualification in English, Maths and ICT
  • Be able to use a range of communication strategies

Main Duties

  • To work as a member of a course team in the planning, preparation, delivery and recording of the educational programme of the students.
  • To assist in the provision of the support necessary for students to make progress, to be safe and to function as effectively as possible.
  • Under the direction of the class Tutor, to lead student activities on a regular and planned basis and in the short term absence of the Tutor.
  • To maintain records, to prepare reports and to attend student review meetings at the direction of the course leader or Tutors and in accordance with the procedures agreed within the College.
  • To participate fully in meetings of the course team, in staff training and other activities at the direction of the course leader or Tutors.
  • To contribute to the creation and maintenance of a stimulating and well-ordered environment for learning and teaching.
  • To participate fully in the College’s quality assurance processes and procedures.
  • To perform such additional duties commensurate with the post of Co-Tutor as may be requested by a Tutors or Senior Manager.
