Shaftesbury Icanho is a non-residential highly specialist community-based brain injury rehabilitation service. Icanho's client base is 100% ABI including stroke, delivering over 100 bespoke rehab programmes each year. Our clinical work is undertaken as an interdisciplinary team and OT is an integral and valued part of that team. We work with people in our purpose-built centre, and the community, based on need. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong interest in neuro-rehabilitation who wishes to progress in this field.

You will be joining our small team of experienced and enthusiastic occupational therapists to deliver client-centred rehabilitation, 1:1 and group interventions including vocational rehabilitation. You will work with other experienced specialist occupational therapists with excellent opportunities to continually build your skills/knowledge. Main duties of the job:
  • Work as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team to deliver high quality goal-centred rehabilitation.
  • Responsible for a caseload of clients to provide OT assessment and intervention including return to work/study, treatment and discharge of clients, acting as key worker when necessary.
  • Formulate and implement evidence-based treatment plans with the client and their family including client centred goal setting.
  • Write reports and maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping utilising SystmOne.
  • Appropriate use, analysis and interpretation of data, including valid outcome measures.
  • Contribute to development, evaluation and integration of evidence-based practice.
  • Involve family and carers in rehabilitation process providing education and training as required.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management.
  • Attend interdisciplinary and multi-agency meetings and provide specialist consultation, and advice to other colleagues.
  • Supervise junior OT staff and students.
  • Develop and take part in the provision of educational sessions, including presentations.
  • Evidence own CPD by undertaking relevant training.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant development and research in the field of ABI.
  • Participate in relevant audit/research activities.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, including NHS, Social care, Medico Legal, housing, education, employers, voluntary sector and other community organisations.

Person Specification:
  • Professional Occupational therapy qualification.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Member of RCOT.
  • Self-motivated, team player, organised, flexible, reflective, willing to learn & develop clinical skills, accountable.
  • Current driving license and use of car.
  • 2 years post qualifying experience of working with adults.
  • Experience of OT assessment and treatment of clients.
  • Experience of Interdisciplinary Team working.
  • Skills in the use of a range of assessments, interventions and management of disorders.
  • Excellent communication written and spoken.
  • Critical appraisal and reflective practice skills.
  • Organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Knowledge of neurology, the brain and brain injury.
  • Basic knowledge of legislation in relation to people with Acquired Brain Injury, including MCA and DOLs.
  • Sound understanding of clinical and information governance.
  • Experience of neuro-OT assessment and treatment.
  • Experience of different cultural contexts.
  • Experience across a range of settings, including community.
  • Vocational rehabilitation experience.
  • Interest in and/or experience of undertaking audit and research.
  • Experience of communicating sensitive or complex information.
  • Experience of supervising.
  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels both within and outside the organisation.
  • Use of technology within assessment/therapy.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
