The Financial Adviser (Employee Benefits) is responsible for delivering professional, impartial financial guidance to employees, with a particular focus on helping them understand and optimise their workplace benefit arrangements. The role supports employees in making well-informed financial decisions through structured one-to-one meetings, presentations, and the provision of clear educational materials, ensuring complex financial concepts are communicated in an accessible and compliant manner.

Key responsibilities

  • One-to-one meetings which invariably involve discussions around how employees can best utilise their Workplace Pension as part of their overall financial plan but will also include:
  • Understanding when and how to amalgamate pensions.
  • Overall pension or investment targeting.
  • Efficient use of mortgages.
  • How to identify when to use other financial products such as ISAs, protection policies, cash accounts, NS & I.
  • When Buy to Let and alternative investments might be appropriate as part of a financial plan.
  • Helping those facing significant AA ‘tapering’ identify how best to save for retirement.
  • Presentations – these could include general financial planning guidance, announcing changes in workplace benefits such as pension scheme switching or the introduction of new features such as Salary Sacrifice implementation.
  • Updating Shackleton EB systems to maintain thorough records of all client conversations.
  • Tax and Allowance calculations – as an example: helping a client identify their maximum scope for Annual Allowance usage.
  • Creating employee-facing documents that help explain financial services products or concepts in a way that the ‘man in the street’ would find accessible.
  • Maintaining an online literature library designed to explain the most common personal finance and benefits issues to employees.
  • This job description may be reviewed and subsequently amended to better reflect any changes required in the role.

    Person specification

    • Qualifications
    • CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.
  • Knowledge and experience
    • Strong understanding of workplace pension schemes, including DC arrangements, pension consolidation, Annual Allowance and tapering considerations.
    • Solid knowledge of wider personal financial planning areas such as investments, ISAs, protection products, mortgages, and savings vehicles.
    • Experience delivering one-to-one financial guidance to employees or clients in a regulated environment.
    • Proven ability to present financial concepts clearly to groups, both in person and virtually.
    • Familiarity with maintaining accurate and compliant advisory records and using internal systems to document client interactions.
    • Understanding of FCA regulatory requirements and adherence to professional standards within financial advice.

    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, understandable language.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust quickly with employees at all levels.
    • High attention to detail and strong analytical capability.
    • Professional, ethical, and client-centred approach to advice and guidance.
    • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and manage a varied workload.
    • Confident presentation and facilitation skills.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge.
    • Sound judgement, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive financial discussions appropriately.
